Marshall University's Women’s Swimming and Diving Team will be competing against Duquesne this Friday and Saturday, the finial meet before the conference championship matches begin in February.

The match will be a home game for Marshall at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium, with Friday evening matches beginning at 6pm and Saturday at 11am.

Marshalls head coach for the swimming and diving team, Ian Walsh, said his team was ready for this weekend, and that it will be another close matchup.

“This weekend should be another close meet against Duquesne. The team is excited for the challenge,” said Walsh.

Marshalls Swimming and Diving teams last match against Duquesne was mid-January last year, with a loss of 136-164. Duquesne last match was a win of 109-96 against the University of Buffalo.

Walsh also sees this weekend's matchup as a learning tool for the next few weeks leading into the conference championship matches. This is our final competition before our conference championships. The staff should get a fair amount of information from this weekend to help prepare the final three weeks.”

Walsh wants his team to be ready for the Missouri Valley Conference in Feb. from 15-18. Marshall has been invited to participate this season in the conference as an affiliate member and compete in Iowa City.

This past weekend Marshall took on Ohio University and James Madison, with Ohio leaving victorious at 197-97, and James Madison also leaving on a win with 164-136.

Walsh said that although this past weekend was not a winning one, it was still a good learning experience for the upcoming championships. “We saw a lot of positive things in regards to race strategies and putting together well executed dives,” said Walsh.
