Grassie on National Championship Win

After winning the national soccer championship on Monday, Marshall Universities head coach Chris Grassie said he was stunned after taking down Indiana for the school's first ever soccer championship.

Grassie said, "time kind of stopped, and I was like what do I do now?”

He said this feeling had been building over the past few years, as he had been close to being where he was then, but never in the seat he sits in now. “I’ve been on the wrong side of this press conference to many times, so to win it, it’s a bit of a relief.”

Grassie also said that after making his way through many of the teams in the nation, he felt like this was something he saw coming.

Thanking the Herd fans and all those who came to support the team was something Grassie said he felt like he needed to do. His hope is that not only do the fans know that their support mattered, but that it shines a new light on the university for prospective students and those looking to play soccer at the college level.

He said he hopes that those interested in college will be more drawn to Marshall now that the Herd has made itself known to the nation.
